Fabulous to Be Female
Fabulous to be Female exists to affirm, empower, inspire, and educate girls and women. Our events and products are designed to boost self-worth and to connect girls and women to their own strengths and spirit of goodness. As often as possible this is done in community, through group events. There is incredible power and goodness released and shared when women and girls come together to affirm each other and to empower each other.
We use stories, information, and skill building to equip girls with tools, information, and confidence for the transition years between childhood and adulthood (ages 9-18). The growing-up years tend to be rocky ones for girls. However, when girls come together with trusted adult women, they gain confidence and strength; you can almost feel it in the air. Mothers feel it; girls feel it. It's powerful and it is a gift. And it's a timely gift because self-esteem and body-image are huge issues for girls. Between 80-97% of women dislike or even hate their body - and it starts at a young age. Negative body-image is related to many negative outcomes: depression, eating disorders, underachievement, drug and alcohol use, and cutting/self harm.
Our approach is to connect parents and other healthy adults with pre-teens and teens. Fabulous to be Female is well known for our mother-daughter events. These popular workshops connect girls and mothers to each other and to the broader community with uplifting and lively content. Girls and women continue to rate these events as a "10." In 2009 we added continuing education courses to our offerings to further resource and guide parents. The mothers were asking for more. And they were asking for content for dads too. So we responded by creating audio products for moms and dads to offer follow-up content to our workshops. As our workshops have expanded so has our product line. Now we offer products for parents raising preteen and teen and boys as well. Our Coming of Age Series includes Growing up Female, Growing up Male, and Talkig to Your Kids about Sex.

Her events are uplifting, affirming, and fun.
Here's a bit of Fabulous to Be Female history:
Amy led her first mother-daughter event 14 years ago when her eldest daughter was embarking on the growing-up-years. Mothers spread the word and wouldn't let the workshp die; they kept asking for it. In 2009 Amy decided to start promoting the Growing up Female Level I workshop and it continues to spread, primarily by word of mouth. Mothers and program leaders asked for more so in 2010 Amy developed Growing up Female Level II and Level III in order to address more complex content areas and to help bridge the communication struggles and challenges parents and teen girls experience all the way through the teen years.
Program leaders and mothers pressed further until Amy developed the Growing up Male series in late 2010.
The response to these intergenerational events for preteens/teens and parents - together - has been overwhelmingly positive. Parents have expressed gratitude and have rated the whole Series an average score of 9.2 out of 10. Parents want to give their kids guidance on the sensitive subjects of the growing-up years and are pleased to be offered a safe forum for those conversations.
Studies show that parent conversations make a difference. Kids may balk at the content but they really do want to know what their parents think about sex, sexuality, and sexual expression. And there's a whole lot more to the growing-up years than sex. We cover many other issues in these workshops - mostly around self-worth and self-esteem. Unfortunately, our young people take a beating where self-worth is concerned. We are making a difference. And we can do it together. Your kids are worth it. The young people in the programs you lead are worth it.
